Why Pursue an LLB?

For any student, spending 3 years of his life is no easy decision. However, LLB offers unparalleled opportunities. Here are some key reasons I have collected personally after speaking to 100s of people about why you should consider this path:

Spectacular Career Opportunities and Legal Practice

  • Mandatory Qualification (This is important): An LLB degree is essential for practicing law in India. Without it, one cannot appear in court to represent clients or provide legal advice.
  • Diverse Legal Fields: With an LLB, you can handle various types of cases, including income tax matters, civil disputes like real estate and consumer issues, criminal cases, and public interest litigations. This versatility ensures that there is always a demand for legal professionals. Many other professionals are always looking for people to come and join their practice. You will have no dearth of opportunities.
  • Career Growth: Starting early (in your 20s) in your legal career gives you the potential to rise to prestigious positions, such as becoming a High Court or Supreme Court judge. The respect and influence that come with being an advocate are unmatched and cannot be bought with money.

Financial and Social Benefits

We are all definitely not going to survive on air and water. While there are some lawyers that can be only “Chettu Kinda Pleaders”, most lawyers today are opting for deep careers and lucrative pay packages.

Respect and Networking: Advocates enjoy a high level of respect in society. The profession allows you to build extensive networks, making it easier to get things done and open new opportunities. The saying goes something like this “Everyone needs a lawyer and a lawyer needs everyone”.

Tip: If you belong to SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories, you can benefit from fee reimbursements from AP and TS governments. Job opportunities in Government sectors are also reserved for these groups and these jobs have lesser competition compared to regular jobs. This support can significantly ease your educational journey and career advancement.

LLB is Best for Changing Careers

  • Changing Careers: An LLB is a great option for those looking to switch careers. For example, combining an LLB with a B.Sc in Agriculture can create a powerful skill set, opening doors in legal and agricultural sectors.
  • Age Inclusivity: Law programs are welcoming to students of all ages. It is common to see individuals in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and even 60s in LLB programs. This diversity allows for rich learning experiences from peers with varied life experiences.
  • Opportunities for Everyone: Whether you are a housewife looking to start a new career, a professional seeking to enhance your credentials, or someone aiming to make a societal impact, an LLB provides a robust platform to achieve your goals.

Future Career Prospects

  • Corporate Roles: Lawyers can move into various positions within companies, such as legal officers, compliance officers, and in-house counsel.
  • Public Service: Graduates can also pursue roles as public prosecutors, judges, or even reach the positions of Attorney General of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, or even India.
  • Private Practice: Establishing your own legal practice can be highly rewarding, both financially and personally.
